My name is Sergio Luis Pidutti, I was born in 1963 in San Miguel de Tucumán. In Argentina’s northwest.
I am fond of nature since I was a child, and that encouraged me to explore the outdoors and enjoy the great landscapes of my home province. This is where I made my first steps in photography when I got my first reflex camera. It was a Minolta with a 100 mm – 200 mm lens. This camera helped me grow my passion for nature and portraying it in my pictures.
During my teen years I became an expert aquarist, and that inspired me to be a marine biologist. So, when I was 18 I moved to Mar del Plata, where I studied and finished my degree.
Meanwhile I became a better photographer, and also started experimenting with movies and video filming. As a professional, I specialized in nautical and advertising photography, and also filmed social events. This gave me the opportunity to work at the press department of the Club Náutico de Mar del Plata (Mar del Plata Nautical Club), where I also contributed with a number of local press media. And I even produced a yachting-themed TV show called “Leven Anclas” (“Weigh Anchor!”) which aired for over ten years in the most important local cable channel. At this time, as a marine biologist I specialized in aquaculture. The project for the development of Mar del Plata´s first aquarium begun, and I took part in it. It was called “Mar del Plata Aquarium” and it was a dream come true for me, from my first fish tanks at the age of ten to be the biologist of Argentina’s second aquarium. I worked there for several years, and I was even part of the creation of Fundación Mar del Plata Aquarium (Mar del Plata Aquarium Foundation) which works to protect and help sea life.
All this work led to the project of constructing an educational-only aquarium in Buenos Aires. Sadly, the political and economical changes in Argentina did not allow this endevor to become a reality. Movies and video filming were my main activities at that moment. It was 1996 when internet access started growing users in my country. As an entrepreneur I initiated an internet service provider startup called Cybertech. It grew and after a series changes, as the country itself underwent, it became Cyberwave, a wireless internet service provider. At this point, I gave up movies and video filming. It was 2012 when my wife and I went to Esteros del Iberá (Iberá Wetlands) as an unplanned trip, and there, in this magnificent place I resumed my career as a photographer. I started over with a DSLR Nikon P500 camera since all of my previous gear was analogic.
This triggered a new part of my life, and I begun to travel to amazing places like Torre del Paine (Torres del Paine National Park, Chile), Bolivia, La Puna (Puna Grasslands), Atacama (Atacama Desert), Islas Malvinas (Falkland Islands), among other places. My gear, skills, and knowledge evolve as one. Another dream comes true, I am taking pictures of wildlife and nature amongst the most incredible places on earth. Always supported by my loving wife who travels with me, making my progress a goal of her own. It is my strong belief that we need to work together to protect and preserve nature. Wildlife photography has a clear and important goal to achieve, that is to portray the most incredible images posible for people to appreciate since … WE CAN NOT LOVE WHAT WE DO NOT KNOW.
